Perry is Perry is a Chicago native who was she was born into Laurie Metcalf and Jeff Perry. Her first television performances were Jackie Harris on ABC's sitcom Roseanne. Her mother portrayed her role. Her parents did not allow her to perform by her parents until she reached adulthood, as they feared the stress it would create. Perry admitted that she wasn't confident in her acting during high school, but started performing as a means to connect with new people in Northwestern University after switching from Boston University. Perry started her acting career with New York after graduation, getting small roles on Law & Order: Criminal Intent. However, the feeling of homelessness made Perry go back to California to work as an actress in the theater. Perry starred with her mother as part of The Other Place at Broadway, back in 2013. The father of her Kevin McKidd performed in Eugene O'Neill's Pulitzer Prizewinning drama Anna Christie alongside her in 2015. Perry played a part in nine episodes on ABC's drama The Family during 2016. In 2017, Perry played a supporting role in the ABC political drama Scandal that starred her father. She played the role of an older Mary Cooper (Sheldon Cooper's mother) in Young Sheldon. This spin-off show that was part of the CBS show The Big Bang Theory was another portrayal by her younger mother. The character was picked via auditions though she had a close association with it.
